Stan Davis

Track Athlete

Stan Davis was born in Carthage, Missouri, on February 13, 1944. Raised in Carthage, Davis attended Carthage High School, where he established himself as an outstanding multi-sport athlete and left a lasting mark on Carthage athletics.

Davis excelled in both track and field and football. His athletic ability, determination, and competitive spirit made him a standout athlete and a respected member of the Carthage High School athletic community.

In track and field, Davis achieved a record that has stood for more than six decades. In 1963, he set the Carthage High School boys' long-jump record with a mark of 22 feet, 10½ inches. Remarkably, that record remains the school standard today, making Davis one of the longest-standing record holders in Carthage High School history.

 Davis was also a standout football player for the Tigers. His contributions on the football field reflected the same qualities that defined his track career—athleticism, determination, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. His accomplishments helped add to the tradition of athletic achievement at Carthage High School.

While his athletic accomplishments earned him recognition, Davis's legacy extends beyond the records he established. His life reflects the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication that are central to the tradition of Carthage athletics.

Davis has been married for more than 50 years and is the father of two children. His family has continued his legacy of service and leadership, with his children becoming coaches and teachers and his grandchildren becoming active members of their communities. One granddaughter serves in the United States Air Force.

More than 60 years after Stan Davis set the Carthage High School long-jump record, his name remains in the school's record book. His accomplishments as a Carthage athlete and the example he set through his dedication and perseverance have made a lasting contribution to the athletic history of his hometown.
